How Our Kitesurfing Lessons Work in Mui Ne
Some say learning kitesurfing in Mui Ne is challenging — but that’s not quite true.
With the right approach you can progress quickly and have fun.
Here’s how we do it.
In Mui Ne, there are two main beaches for kitesurfing lessons — Central Beach and Malibu Beach.
Both have big waves and depth, but there’s one key difference:
- Malibu Beach lessons take place in the shallow water near the shore, before the waves break.
- Central Beach lessons happen further out, behind the breaking waves, at the depth.

Central Beach MuiNe
To help you progress faster, we’ve designed a two-stage learning plan.
Stage 1 — Malibu Beach: Learn Kite Control
1. Kite control on land or shallow water (1–2 hours). You’ll start by learning to steer a small kite.

2. Body dragging with the kite (1–2 hours). You’ll practice moving through the water using kite power — an essential skill for staying in control after a fall.
3. Preparing for water starts (1–2 hours)
- On the beach, you’ll generate kite power and simulate standing up.
- In the water, you’ll put on the board and practice water starts.
Once you’ve got the basics, it’s time for stage two — waterstart.
That’s why we make a short trip to Phan Rang, where the water is flat, waist-deep, and the wind steady.

My Hoa - kite lagoon in Phan Rang
Stage 2 — Phan Rang Adventure: Learn to Ride
Phan Rang is a coastal town about 150 km north of Mui Ne.
Here’s My Hoa Lagoon: wide, flat, and shallow, with clear water and a stunning mountain backdrop.
The depth here varies from knee to waist, depending on the tide.
The waves break far out on the coral reef, so inside the lagoon it’s perfectly flat.

The lagoon stretches about 800 meters from the beach to the deep edge.
The wind blows here almost every day from 15 November to end March, average 10–15 m/s.
It’s strong and perfect — no wonder top riders train in My Hoa.
Training in Phan Rang
Each session lasts 1,5–3 hours and includes:
- Practicing waterstart (1–2 hours): get on the board and sit down to stop.
- Riding your first meters and learning how to control speed.
- Once you’re confident, you’ll start riding both ways and learning how to go upwind.

After mastering waterstart, you can continue kitesurfing lessons at Malibu Beach or join our next trip to Phan Rang.
How Fast Can You Learn to Kitesurf
On average, it takes about 10 hours private lessons to start riding confidently.
Even experienced riders from flat-water spots often need a few sessions to adapt Mui Ne’s waves.

Trips to Phan Rang and flat-water training can speed up your progress by around 1.5 times.

Why Malibu Beach Is Perfect for Advanced Riders
Between the waves at Malibu Beach, you’ll find large flat sections of water — perfect for jumps.
You can also use the waves as a kickers when riding on the left tack, giving your jumps extra height.
Malibu is a dream spot for wave kitesurfers — when the wind picks up, the waves rise to 1–3 meters.
That feeling of escaping a wave as it chases you is simply unforgettable.
Mui Ne is the most accessible kite-wave destination in Asia — steady strong wind and warm water.

Our Instructors
Ivan Trapeznikov — Founder and Head Instructor

Certified IKO Kitesurfing Instructor
I first discovered kitesurfing in the winter of 2015.
Two years later, I decided to become a kite instructor. Since 2017, I’ve worked at a kite school.
In 2020, I opened my own kite school
In 2022 I completed the IKO Instructor Course in Egypt and became a certified Level 1 instructor.
Since then, I’ve taught on kite safaris in Egypt and trained riders in Kenya and Turkey.
In 2024 I came to Vietnam for the first time — and instantly fell in love with this place and its perfect wind.

That’s how our Mui Ne kite school was born for the 2024/25 season.
My teaching style is all about fast.
I love helping students progress quickly — most become independent riders within 6–10 hours of training.
The most gifted ones start riding their first meters after just 2 hours (about 30% of them at Malibu Beach).
I work with beginners and advanced riders, and I’m always happy to teach you how to jump and land stylish tricks.
What to Bring for Your Kitesurfing Lessons
- Sunscreen (SPF 50 or higher)
- Sunglasses and a hat (cap or bucket hat)
- Water shoes (optional — Malibu Beach has soft sand)
- Short wetsuit — handy on cloudy or windy days if you get cold easily
- Lycra top and shorts for sun protection
- Swimwear and a towel

You don’t need any special skills to start kitesurfing — anyone can learn!
Because the beaches in Mui Ne have depth, you should be able to swim before starting your kite lessons.
Why Kiters Love Mui Ne

Here’s why so many kiters choose Mui Ne every winter:
- Strong and steady wind — it blows almost every day during the main season (December to March).
- Perfect weather — stable air temperature around +25–28°C all winter.
- Great infrastructure — plenty of accommodation, massages, delicious food, and fun hobby groups.
- Affordable lifestyle — attractive prices for everything.
- Relaxed vibe and nightlife — peaceful village rhythm by day, vibrant beach parties by night.
- Delicious Vietnamese cuisine — fresh seafood, grilled meats, and veggies — all cooked with love.
Once you come here, you’ll understand why Mui Ne feels like a second home for kiters.

Kitesurfing Season in Vietnam
In winter, northeast winds blow in Mui Ne — the season starts in November and lasts until April.
Wind speed in winter ranges from 7 to 15 m/s, most days around 8–12 m/s.
By January, the weather becomes steadily sunny and windy.
In summer time from June to September, southwest winds take over — riders usually use larger kites (10–14 m²).
May and October are transition months with the lightest winds.

The rainy season falls between summer and autumn, with short daily showers that usually last about an hour.
☀️ The main kitesurfing season in Mui Ne runs from mid-November to April, with consistent winds almost every day — perfect for both beginners and pros.
Mui Ne Village
(How to get here, where to stay, visas, transport)
Mui Ne is a cozy fishing and tourist village located about 200 km north of Ho Chi Minh City.
It’s a calm and sunny place that kiters from all over the world come back to every winter.

Getting to Mui Ne
First, book a flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
From there, you can reach Mui Ne by private transfer or sleeper bus.
-
🚐 Option 1 - Private transfer: around $60, comfortable 3-hour ride.
We can help arrange a transfer — our local Vietnamese partner speaks English and is always on time.
Your driver will meet you right outside the airport exit. Driver will take you directly to your hotel.
-
🚌 Option 2 – Sleeper Bus: total around $30.
After leaving the airport, cross the road and ignore taxi offers.
Open the Grab app and order a taxi to Pham Ngu Lao Street - Hang Cafe bus station.
There you’ll find Hang Cafe, where you can buy a ticket to Mui Ne (just tell them your hotel name).
The bus will drop you off right in front of your hotel on the central strreet.

Where to Stay
If you’re coming for the winter, it’s best to find accommodation locally after arrival.
The “1001 Hotel” area is quiet, away from the main market — no noise or chaos, and lots of nice cafés, massage salons, shops, currency exchange and the beach nearby.
🏠 Option 1 – Budget stays
Book a room in 1001 Hotel for 1–2 nights and then look around for long-term housing. Guesthouses along the main street range from $120–400/month, or $300+ for a place by the sea.
We can show you the most popular spots.
🏖️ Option 2 – Comfortable apartments

For more comfort, look for Ocean Vista, Domain Villa, or Sea Links.
These options are often booked out in high season, so it’s smart to reserve early.
There’s also a Telegram group with local realtors where you can rent apartments or villas.
✈️ Option 3 – All-inclusive tours
Recently agencies started offering package tours to Vietnam.
It’s usually best to choose one with breakfast included — cheaper overall and you’ll still enjoy the local food scene.
Vietnam Visa
No visa is needed for stays up to 45 days.
If you plan to stay longer, apply for an e-visa online — a single-entry 3-month visa costs $25.
Be sure to fill in all fields, including occupation.
Select Lam Dong Province.
💡 Apply e-visa about one month before your trip — just in case you need to resubmit.
Getting Around Mui Ne
Everyone here rides motorbikes.
A 125cc motorbike costs about 2,000,000 VND/month ($80), up to $200 for a new, more powerful one.
You can rent motorbike on the main street or through local contacts.

🚲 Prefer something slower? Try an electric bicycle.
There’s almost no police on the streets.
For short rides, use Grab for taxis or motorbikes.
Local Tips
💬 SIM cards are easy to get at the airport or in Mui Ne (Viettel are best).
💱 Currency exchange is available on the main street — rates are fair.
📱 Free Wi-Fi is everywhere.
